Ember & Glaze: Bathurst’s Mobile Pottery Studio

If you visit the Bathurst Community Market on Saturday mornings, you’ll find Amber Godin standing behind a display of pottery molds ready to be painted and brought to life. She has tables set up in the corner of the market where visitors can get hands-on with her craft.

Amber’s pottery journey began in childhood, sparked by a high school course. Years later, during her maternity leave, she rekindled that passion by spending countless hours learning the craft through YouTube videos and joining pottery guilds. When an opportunity to relocate from Ontario to Bathurst presented itself, Amber felt the time was right to turn her passion into a business. That was last February, and the reception since then has been wonderful.

Ember & Glaze is a mobile studio, meaning Amber brings the experience to you. She hosts workshops and events where participants paint their chosen molds, which Amber then takes home to fire in her kiln before returning the finished pieces.

“Having a mobile studio allows me to keep my prices down and go to people that wouldn’t necessarily be able to come to me,” she says.

Amber is also looking to partner with schools and youth organizations to give kids the chance to try something completely different. “Art is for everyone,” she says. With nearly 1,000 molds to choose from, there’s truly something for everybody, and the market gives you a great glimpse of the variety on offer.

Amber has brought a unique art form to the Bathurst area, and her story is a wonderful example of how a community is enriched when people follow their passions and share them with others.
