Coaction Youth Council Hosts Annual Bay Breakfast for Student Activities

This year’s Bay Breakfast is taking place on May 2nd. Volunteers will help greet customers, clean up, serve breakfast, and take on any other tasks needed to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible.

Speaking to the student volunteers, they said that although there are a lot of activities in the area, they feel their particular age group isn’t properly represented. Another issue was the divide between the English high school, BHS, and the French high school, ESN.

Together, the students of both schools realized they were seeking a solution to the same problem: a lack of activities. So, they created a youth council—the only one of its kind in New Brunswick—to put their heads together and say goodbye to the divide.

The types of events they plan include outdoor movie nights, bowling nights, hockey games, and this summer they will host a beach bash at Youghall with help from East Coast Adventures. They’ll have paddle boarding, volleyball, and a BBQ with hot dogs and hamburgers. They even have a ski trip planned for next year, which will be free for all students.

This year, the money raised is staying with Coaction. This will allow the council to show exactly where the money is going and enable them to plan even more events.

The council has also streamlined the ticket-buying process. On May 2nd, you’ll simply purchase your tickets at the door of the restaurant you choose.

This is a great event for an even better cause. We want to thank all of the student and adult volunteers who are making this happen. It’s one thing to want change, but the people who go out and make it happen are the ones who truly matter.

A big thank you to Shannon Lavigne and the rest of the committee for allowing us to learn more about your story.

Well, that’s it for another edition of The Northern Heat Report—the place you come to hear the stories that have not yet been discovered.
