A Guy That They’re Proud Of

From Hamilton, Ontario to Bathurst, New Brunswick

You might have heard of Pyrus Maintenance. Over the last year, the owner, Dawlson Bourdages, has been offering his services over the many local online groups. The Pyrus Maintenance brand colours are inviting, and we thought it was time to meet the owner of this new company.

Dawlson is from Hamilton, Ontario, and while living there he met his girlfriend who is from the Bathurst region. She moved to Ontario without knowing how to speak English, and she brought Dawlson back here, where he says that now he’s in the same boat. Despite still learning French, Dawlson has nothing but positive things to say about the welcoming atmosphere he’s experienced since moving here four years ago.

“Everyone is so accepting here. It’s so different and it’s awesome. I’ve always wanted to start a business, and I’ve come out here and had no issues. What more do you want as a business?”

In Ontario, Dawlson was always doing side jobs, trying to get his foot in the door and learn his capabilities. So, he started staining decks and pressure washing. Once he moved here, he got a job at Rogers Electric & Machine, which is helping him branch out into another area of the Pyrus Maintenance business.

“Last year, I started testing the market. And then I got around 25 people wanting to wrap boats.”

At Rogers Electric, he says that he learned how to wrap, because everything that leaves the building needs to be wrapped.

Now Dawlson pressure washes boats, and then wraps them for the winter. Once the spring rolls around, boats are all ready to go.

Pyrus Maintenance does pressure washing for houses, cleans gutters, and also does surface washing for driveways and pathways. Now, they’ve added boat wrapping.

For now, the business is just Dawlson, which he likes because he loves meeting new people, but he plans on growing the business over the next ten years and offering more services.

“I’ve had a hard time with contractors in the area,” says Dawlson. “So I want to be the guy that people are proud of. I want them to say, I got a guy, because that phrase is huge.”

Pyrus Maintenance has a business page on Facebook, and a website where you can find their email and phone number. Dawlson encourages anyone to reach out and call him. Even if it’s a service that isn’t listed on the website, he’s still happy to talk to anyone who has questions.

We want to thank Dawlson for visiting the shop at ThermalWood Canada and sitting down to speak with us about his journey. We love to hear about what keeps people in Bathurst, especially when they come from elsewhere, and for Dawlson, it’s all about the community.

Well, that’s it for another edition of the Northern Heat Report, the place you come to listen to the stories that have not yet been discovered.
