Mental Health Services In Bathurst

Much needed counselling and consulting services find a new home on St Andrews

New Tide Counselling & Consulting have expanded their services to the Bathurst Region.

I sat down with Jeremy Varner, the new Director of the Bathurst location, which is situated at 375 St Andrews St, to discuss the expansion of these very important services.

New Tide Counselling & Consulting is just over a year old, opening its doors in July of last year in Miramichi, by Kaitlin Carroll. Jeremy was living in Yellowknife at the time, and relocated to the area to teach at NBCC. This is where he became connected to Kaitlin, who asked him if he’d like to come on as a contractor and take on some clients.

“I said, absolutely! I instantly fell in love with her vision and the potential for growth,” says Jeremy.

Jeremy came on full time as director in March.

“I would hear all the time that Bathurst needs more mental health services, so I went to Kaitlin and said what do you think about expanding? She was completely on board.”

They took some time to find a place in Bathurst and settled on their current location on St Andrews Street. They’re already seeing a lot of referrals come through Bathurst, and the goal is to build a local team to thin out the wait list.

New Tide Counselling & Consulting offers one on one counselling, couples counselling and family counselling. These can be done either in person or virtually. Jeremy even offers sessions via text message through an encrypted line.

They also have a consulting side to the business, where they can go to workplaces and offer different workshops which focus on mental health, wellness and safety, as a way to bring everyone together.

The Bathurst location just opened its doors on September 6th, you can visit their website here: https://www.newtide.ca/ or visit them on social media to learn more about the services they offer.

We’re thankful to Jeremy Varner for taking the time to speak with us, and for bringing his talents to the Bathurst region, a place he now calls home.

Jeremy was born in Nova Scotia, spent a lot of time in Moncton and eventually relocated to the Northwest Territories before returning to New Brunswick. He’s now in Bathurst, raising his son and enjoying the pace of life here.

“I’m learning that more people refer themselves if their clinician is not from the area,” says Jeremy. So having someone from outside of the city come here to offer his services could prove to be beneficial for the people of the area.
