K-Fit Studio is now offering exercise classes in the old Tim Hortons building on Main Street. Owner, Kate Scott, her husband Laughlin, and her fitness partner of 10 years, Janie Robichaud, have done something very special in a short amount of time.
Over the span of four months, they modified the building and created a workout space that provides not only an exceptional place to exercise, but also a location to socialize and be a part of something bigger.
“It’s the social atmosphere,” says Kate. “Everybody is encouraging. I had classes the other night and everybody was happy to see each other.”
November 12th was the first day of classes in the new location, but they have been continuously adding to the space. The K-Fit sign will arrive and be installed soon and outdoor renovations will begin in the spring.
Kate and her business partner Janie have been teaching together for almost a decade. Kate did her Zumba certification before meeting Janie who convinced Kate to complete her Canfitpro Group Certification as she herself already had it so they could offer more fitness classes.
They started in Beresford, moved to the rec centre in North Tetagouche, and then the Levesque building. The Levesque building is where yoga instructor Sunny Bosca came onboard to offer yoga classes three times a week, which she is still doing in the new location.
K-Fit started right before COVID and could only open their doors for a couple of months before restrictions set in. They were able to switch to virtual classes for a while and in May, they once again opened their doors for smaller classes.
But through it all they survived and things are going well to kick off 2025.
They offer high and low impact bootcamps, Tabata classes, Strong Nation (which is cardio kickboxing) , Zumba Fitness, Pilates, and Yoga.
You can see the schedule for all of their different classes on their Facebook page, which you can visit here
You can also download the ClassFit App for more information.
We asked Kate about taking the step into entrepreneurship. Because as we’ve mentioned on the segment before, many people want to be their own boss and pursue a passion, but not everyone is willing to make the sacrifice.
“My husband and his family are self-employed. I’ve always had a passion for fitness, even when I was a teenager. When the kids were young and I stopped, it didn’t feel right. I liked going somewhere and working out and seeing people. Then Janie and I just said, let’s do this.”
It’s now January, as good a time as ever to try something new and meet some great people along the way.
Well, that’s it for another edition of The Northern Heat Report. The place you come to listen to the stories that have not been discovered yet.
We want to thank Kate for taking the time to speak with us and to let everyone in the region know what’s going on at the old Tim Hortons location on Main Street. We wish her the best of luck in the new building. .
