The North Shore New Brunswick Regiment Association is looking for members to keep the history of our World War II veterans alive.
We spoke with retired high-ranking officers Steven Bass and Marc Willett about the association and what people can expect with a membership.
You can visit their official website at www.nsnbr.ca and learn all about what makes this association so important.
You’ll have access to The Stag, which is the official newsletter of the association. It was founded in 1945 and served as a source of news for soldiers to keep up with the regiment and everything going on back home.
Now, it serves as a way to keep everyone informed about the activities of the association.
In the latest issue, The Stag featured messages from the President of the Association concerning the 85th anniversary of D-Day, the 2025 Semaine Acadienne—which will include an exhibition on the North Shore New Brunswick Regiment in August—and a feature on the life of a World War II veteran who recently passed away at the age of 103.

“The World War II veterans aren’t around anymore,” says Marc Willett. “The criteria for being a member is just being interested in preserving the memory of the heroes of World War II.”
This is important for those who believe that you need to be a relative of a veteran or of another member of the association.
You don’t need to have any relation—you just need to be interested. This is why it’s a great option for anyone.
The association is also working on a shop where they’ll be selling merchandise: hats, shirts, and pins with the North Shore Regiment crest. They have a supplier, and they’re hoping to have the items ready for the annual D-Day Parade on Saturday, June 7.
There’s an incentive for members, as they will receive all of these items at a discounted rate compared to non-members.
Every five years, the association also hosts a big dinner.
As a secondary initiative, they also work on recruitment for the North Shore Regiment. Either in the winter or summer, they run a basic military qualification course for those interested in being a part of the North Shore Regiment.
For those who might be interested in becoming a member, you can visit the website. There’s a lot of information about what the association is about and what they do.
You’ll also find contact information if you’d like to reach out to one of the members and learn more.
