Alyssa Carrier and Jenica Boucher are the new owners of the Bellies to Babies consignment boutique on Laurier Street right next to H&R Block.
They’re the third owners of the boutique, taking over in December, and according to Alyssa and Jenica, it all happened very quickly.
“I moved to Ontario for two years and came back because I missed home,” says Jenica. “The previous owner was my cousin, and we talked and then we decided to do it.”
Alyssa came into the fold because she and Jenica have been best friends since childhood, and together they took the leap because they didn’t want to see such an important shop in the region close its doors.
The new owners plan on keeping the spirit of the shop the same as it’s always been, while implementing some changes. Many of which involve bringing in more Canadian products in an effort to support local.
“We have Pure Soaps, some bubble bath from Vancouver, some natural body care products for moms from New Brunswick. We’re focused on Canadian made products,” says Alyssa.

A consignment shop differs from a thrift store in a few different ways. Everything is hand picked to ensure the quality is like new, and the consignor gets 40 percent of the sale. This allows for more unique brands to enter the shop like Adidas, Tommy Bahama, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hillfigger and more.
The shop sells clothing from newborn sizes all the way to age 16, and even some extended sizes, as well as maternity clothing. They offer some non clothing items in their This and That section, like soothers and toys.
They even support local artisans who make small items like crochet stuffies, keychains, and other products. You can reach out to them, if you’re an artisan looking to display some of your creativity.
While the owners will take a look at any clothes you have within the age range previously stated, they’re in need of boys’ clothing from ages seven to twelve. If your boys are outgrowing some of their clothes, Alyssa and Jenica would be happy to take a look at them.
To make an appointment, you can visit their website, reach out on Facebook, or stop in at 230 Laurier Street. You can visit their Facebook page here for all the necessary links and to see some pictures of the boutique.
We want to thank Alyssa and Jenica for being guests on this week’s edition of The Northern Heat Report. The place you come to listen to the stories that have not yet been discovered.
We wish the two new owners of Bellies to Babies all the best in their new endeavour, and for all the people in the region looking for some maternity clothing, or clothing for their kids, this is the place to check out.
